First ore hits platinum processing plant in SA

THE FIRST ore feed has hit Platinum Australia’s Smokey Hills Processing Plant in South Africa.

According to the company, 2,000t of ore and waste is being fed into the mill so hot commissioning of the plant’s million section can get underway.

Sampling to date has indicated an average grade of 80,000t, running at approximately 7.5g/t.

Smokey Hills is set to be among the lowest cost producers in the industry, with 200,000t of ore to be produced by May 2009.
