Abbot Point aluminium refinery development in doubt

THE DEVELOPMENT of the Abbot Point aluminium refinery is in doubt as concerns have been raised that the plans will be delayed due to the sale of Rio Tinto assets to Chinalco.

The North Queensland's Whitsunday Regional Council says plans could be stalled as investors have sold down Rio Tinto shares over its involvement in the Chinalco deal.

The Council says many people are concerned about foreign ownership of Australian assets.
