RISKMETRICS has released its findings on its analysis of the modified Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS).
The group found that the total assistance for emissions-intensive industries will now be worth $16.4 billion over five years.
Aluminium smelting will now receive $1.139 billion under the increased compensation proposals in the first full year of emissions trading, 2012-13, petroleum refining $378 million, alumina refining $319 million, steel $316 million, LNG $231 million and cement $190 million.
RiskMetrics estimates that total assistance to the 20 largest greenhouse gas emitters will now be $683 million higher in the first full year of the ETS than in the original proposal.
