Significant iron ore discoveries unveiled in WA

ATLAS Iron has identified four new iron ore discoveries at its Abydos project in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.

Atlas has now located 17 targets at the project, which produces direct shipping ore that does not require processing.

Managing director, David Flanagan, says the new discoveries will help the miner reach its exploration targets for the Greater Abydos region of 100Mt to 140Mt, grading 57 to 60 per cent iron.

Atlas operates two iron ore mines in the region, and expects to begin exporting from Abydos in the March quarter of 2010.

The Abydos project lies approximately 110km south of Port Hedland and comprises two exploration licences which are both Mineral Rights Tenements.
