ALCOA has acknowledged the improvements made during the passage of the Renewable Energy Target (RET) legislation.

The mineral processing company says the improvements are recognition that the design of such schemes is critical in maintaining the international competitiveness of emissions intensive trade exposed (EITE) industries like aluminium.

Alcoa says legislation such as the RET and Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS) will impose significant additional costs on EITE industries that cannot pass these costs on to the international marketplace.

The company claims it will continue to work with our local members and other Parliamentarians in an effort to ensure that this recognition continues in the debate over the over the CPRS legislation.

Alcoa continues to support the introduction of a CPRS that delivers greenhouse reductions and does not compromise Australian jobs.
